Regional Government extends deadline for taxi fleet renewal until 2027 or 2030

Funchal Notícias28 August 2026 at 15:15

The Regional Government, through the Regional Secretariat for Equipment and Infrastructures, approved a new Order that extends the transitional period for compliance with the age limit of vehicles used in taxi transport activity. The deadline extension, now running until 2027 or 2030, aims to give sector operators more time to renew their fleets.

This extension aims to ensure a gradual and appropriate transition to the reality of the taxi sector. The objective is to allow taxi operators to adapt to the new requirements without compromising the continuity of the service provided to passengers.

The measure acknowledges the difficulties that professionals in the taxi transport activity face in meeting vehicle age limits in a short period of time. With this extension, the Regional Executive demonstrates concerns about the economic sustainability of the sector and the protection of jobs associated with taxi activity.
