Journalist Marcos Penido dies

Journalist Marcos Penido died on Saturday at the age of 74 after heart failure. Known as "Penidação," he worked at newspaper O GLOBO for 32 years, from 1983 to 2015, and previously at Jornal do Brasil. Penido won two Esso Awards: the first for coverage of the 1982 World Cup and the second at O GLOBO in 1994 for revealing a match-fixing scheme in Rio de Janeiro football. Throughout his career, he covered nine World Cups, from 1982 to 2014. He leaves behind his wife Rita and two stepchildren, as well as admirers in newsrooms across Rio de Janeiro, where he was also known as a Botafogo fan.
