Alison dos Santos, Piu, made history in Brazilian athletics by breaking the world record in the 400m hurdles at the Diamond League stage in Zurich, this Thursday. The Brazilian registered the time of 45.80, becoming the first Brazilian record holder in track events in athletics. The previous record belonged to Norwegian Karsten Warholm, set in the final of the Tokyo-2020 Olympic Games, held in 2021, with the time of 45.94. Piu beat the previous mark by 14 hundredths of a second.

In addition to entering the history of the sport, Alison dos Santos also secured a millionaire prize. The Brazilian received 100 thousand dollars (about R$ 518 thousand at the current exchange rate), with 80 thousand dollars (R$ 415 thousand) referring to the world record and another 20 thousand dollars (R$ 103 thousand) corresponding to the victory in the event. The amount was higher because the 400m hurdles were among the events classified as Diamond+ at this stage of the Diamond League.

The victory in Zurich represents another important achievement in the career of the Brazilian athlete, who had already demonstrated his favoritism in the event even before the historic competition. This feat consolidates Piu as one of the biggest names in world athletics today, especially in an event that has brought together some of the fastest athletes in history.
