Indian singer and digital influencer Ankiit Baliyan was shot dead on Wednesday night (26) in Shamli, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. According to police, three or four men arrived on two motorcycles and opened fire on the artist as he was leaving a gym in the Kotwali area, about 96 kilometers from New Delhi. Baliyan was hit several times and died after being taken to a nearby health center.
The attack occurred after an Instagram post, attributed to a man who claimed to be part of a gang, stated that Baliyan had composed a song about the murder of a well-known criminal leader. Police are investigating whether this claim has a direct connection to the singer's killing.
Uttar Pradesh police are reviewing security camera footage from the area and searching for the suspects. Police Superintendent NP Singh reported that several cameras have been checked to identify those responsible for the crime.
