For 8 years, 21 private schools have been giving 19 or 20 to more than one third of their students

A report released this Friday by the Directorate-General for Education and Science Statistics reveals that, in the 2024/2025 school year, 38 private schools assigned 19 or 20 grades to more than 30% of their students in at least one subject. The analysis of internal grades shows that this phenomenon affects a significant part of the private sector.

The report identifies 21 schools that have shown the same pattern for eight consecutive years, which the ministry classifies as "recurring phenomena." These establishments give 19 or 20 grades to a much higher proportion of students when compared to the average of the education system.

The published data does not identify the schools in question, although they represent 35% of the total private schools analyzed. The situation raises questions about the consistency and rigor of the evaluation criteria used in these establishments.
