The investigation into the fire in Devesa del Saler confirmed that the fire was intentionally caused. The fire has already consumed 37 hectares of vegetation in the affected area.
The government delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, announced the results of the first phase of the investigation. After ruling out natural causes, lightning or machinery in the area of the former Venta dels Bous, investigators determined that the fire was deliberately set.
According to the investigation's conclusions, the fire was caused by a cigarette butt or, as it is commonly called, "a flick of a cigarette." This information was conveyed by Pilar Bernabé during her statement about the progress of the investigations.
