The director-general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, is expected to meet with Supreme Court Minister André Mendonça next week. The information was confirmed by a government source to CBN. The move comes after President Lula requested this meeting to try to reduce the tension between the two agencies.
The government's concern stems from the fact that Mendonça is the rapporteur of inquiries considered sensitive and with potential electoral impact. Among them, two investigations involve Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, known as Lulinha, the president's son. In addition, the minister is overseeing investigations into Banco Master and INSS frauds, as well as the inquiry into payments for the Dark Horse film related to former President Jair Bolsonaro.
The relationship between the Federal Police and the STF minister has been marked by mutual suspicions about interferences and political motivations in the investigations. The government seeks to ensure that the investigations proceed without any perception of political pressure on the work.
On August 6, Justice Minister Wellington César Lima e Silva and the Attorney General, Jorge Messias, had already met with Mendonça in an attempt to reduce tensions and mediate the relationship between the institutions.
