The Portuguese Association Against Childhood Obesity (APCOI) revealed nutrition data from Alentejo schools during the first edition of the "Fruit Heroes" conference. This initiative is part of the association's efforts to combat childhood obesity in Portugal.
The conference brings together municipalities and parishes from all over mainland Portugal and the Autonomous Regions in a joint effort to prevent childhood obesity. The event features the participation of national and international experts who discuss public health policies, scientific evidence and ways to reduce inequalities in the Portuguese school context.
APCOI intends to involve municipal technicians from the areas of education, school meals and health in this conference, recognizing the fundamental role of these professionals in implementing measures to promote healthy eating in schools. The main focus is on the importance of fruit in the diet of children and young people.
