The Mediterranean Diet has arrived at the cafés, pastry shops and restaurants of the city of Tavira. During a fair held between September 3 and 6, these establishments presented gastronomic proposals inspired by the principles of the Mediterranean Diet. This initiative gave visitors and residents the opportunity to learn about and experience traditional variations of this diet recognized by UNESCO.
The city of Tavira was the setting for this celebration of the Mediterranean Diet, which is known for its focus on fresh foods, olive oil, vegetables, fruits and fish. The participating establishments created special menus and products for the occasion, showing how local gastronomy can integrate into this healthy and traditional food philosophy.
The Mediterranean Diet was recognized by UNESCO as an intangible heritage of humanity, highlighting its cultural and nutritional importance. Tavira, as an Algarve city, has a natural connection to this type of diet, given its access to fresh products from the sea and the land. The fair allowed local professionals to demonstrate their creativity in interpreting these traditional ingredients.
