Consumer confidence declines in August after three months of increase

SIC Notícias28 August 2026 at 12:52

Portuguese families became more pessimistic in August, registering a decline in consumer confidence after three consecutive months of increase. This setback reflects greater skepticism regarding the evolution of the economy and the financial situation of families themselves.

In contrast, companies showed a recovery in relation to the drop verified in July, showing signs of greater dynamism in the business sector.

The construction and services sectors were the main responsible for driving the economic climate, contributing significantly to counter the poor consumer result.

This pattern reveals a divergence between the sentiment of families and the sentiment of companies, at a time when the Portuguese economy faces uncertainties that affect in a differentiated way the various economic agents.
