In the United States, legal battles over public access to the sea have been ongoing for decades. In Italy, the organization Mare Libero has been fighting since 2019 against the privatization of bathing areas. In Greece, the movement known as the "towel revolt" emerged in 2023, which combats the abuses of concessions on Greek beaches. This battle for access to public beaches, which has been ongoing for years in other countries, has now arrived in Portugal.
