The Proposed Constitutional Amendment (PEC) that ends the 6x1 schedule may advance in the Federal Senate during the last concentrated effort of Congress before the elections. This was one of the electoral platforms of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The Chamber of Deputies had already approved the proposal in May, but since then it had not advanced in the Senate.
According to the text under analysis, the PEC establishes a maximum workload of 40 hours per week, with two days of paid rest and without salary reduction. However, the main changes for workers will not be immediate. The reduction will be done in stages: first, the limit drops from the current 44 to 42 hours and, only one year later, reaches 40 hours.
The Senate plans a vote on the eve of the elections. Even if the PEC is approved and promulgated during this period, workers will still have to wait for the transition deadlines set out in the text to feel the effects of the change in practice.
Congress reduced activities during the electoral campaign, which makes next week's concentrated effort the last opportunity for advancement before the legislative recess period.
