With the 2027 carnival scheduled for early February, three major schools from Rio de Janeiro's Special Group are in the process of changing their queen of drums. The schools involved are Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel, Imperatriz Leopoldinense, and Grande Rio. All have practically already chosen their names, but are still awaiting official confirmation, which keeps the public in anticipation.
At Mocidade Independente, after the announcement that Fabíola Andrade would leave the position of queen of the percussion section, speculation arose that the renowned Anitta would be chosen to take the position. The information, however, has not yet been officially confirmed.
Imperatriz Leopoldinense and Grande Rio are also going through this transition process. The position of queen of drums is considered highly prestigious in the samba universe, and the change of holders usually generates great repercussions among carnival-goers and specialists.
As happens with each selection process, an avalanche of speculation arises along with suggestions from the public of these schools. Until the official announcement of the names, everything can still change, maintaining the so-called frenzy that the definitive names have not yet been sealed.
