Sardine on the Tile and Potato in the Sand Festival Animates Praia da Tocha Beach

Campeão das Províncias28 August 2026 at 11:18

The Grilled Sardine on the Tile and Grilled Potato in the Sand Festival takes place from Friday to Sunday in the gardens of the Residents' Association of Praia da Tocha. The event promotes the gastronomic potential of the Gândara region, highlighting these two delicacies that combine land and sea flavors.

The parallel program includes musical entertainment on Friday and Saturday, starting at 8:00 PM, with performances by Ritmo Popular and Bruno Pato, respectively.

These gastronomic traditions originated in times when fishermen and peasants in the region created recipes with the resources available. The sardine was grilled on clay roof tiles inside wood-fired ovens, while the potatoes were buried in sand pits heated by bonfires, resulting in simple but unique dishes.

Associated with xávega fishing operations and popular festivals, these practices were passed down from generation to generation and became identity symbols of Praia da Tocha. The festival seeks to recover this gastronomic and cultural heritage, transforming it into a moment of celebration that unites tradition, fellowship, and authenticity.
