The number of commercial flights in the European Union increased by 3.8% in 2025, to 6.9 million, approaching the 7 million recorded in 2019, before the pandemic. According to Eurostat data, the number of flights has been increasing continuously since 2021 and, in 2025, was only slightly below the pre-pandemic level. Of the total flights, 8.5% corresponded to non-regular commercial flights, such as charter flights and other special flights.
The summer months concentrated the highest number of flights, with August leading as the busiest month, recording 693,046 commercial flights, followed by July with 690,855 and June with 648,707. Non-regular flights represented between 11.2% and 12.3% of the total during these months.
Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport, in the Netherlands, recorded the most commercial flights in 2025, with approximately 488 thousand. Followed by Paris-Charles de Gaulle, in France, with 476 thousand, and Frankfurt/Main, in Germany, with 457 thousand. Among the ten busiest airports, Athens/Eleftherios Venizelos had the highest proportion of non-regular flights, with 5.2%.
Despite the recovery of air traffic in Europe, the sector faces new pressures. The Middle East conflict and delays in aircraft deliveries are expected to halve global commercial aviation profits, according to a warning from the International Air Transport Association.
O número de voos comerciais na União Europeia (UE) aumentou 3,8% em 2025, para 6,9 milhões, aproximando-se dos 7 milhões registados em 2019, antes da pandemia, segundo dados divulgados esta sexta-feira pelo Eurostat.
O número de voos tem vindo a aumentar continuamente desde 2021 e, em 2025, ficou apenas ligeiramente abaixo do nível registado antes da pandemia. Do total, 8,5% corresponderam a voos comerciais não regulares, como voos charter e outros voos especiais.
Os meses de verão concentraram o maior número de voos. Agosto foi o mês com mais voos comerciais, com 693.046, seguido de julho, com 690.855, e junho, com 648.707. Os voos não regulares representaram 11,2% do total em junho, 12,3% em julho e 11,4% em agosto.
Amesterdão-Schiphol lidera ranking europeu
O aeroporto de Amesterdão-Schiphol, nos Países Baixos, foi o que registou mais voos comerciais em 2025, com cerca de 488 mil. Seguiram-se o Paris-Charles de Gaulle, em França, com 476 mil, e Frankfurt/Main, na Alemanha, com 457 mil.
Entre os dez aeroportos europeus com maior número de voos comerciais, Atenas/Eleftherios Venizelos apresentou a maior proporção de voos não regulares, com 5,2%. Seguiram-se o Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, em Espanha, com 4,8%, e Copenhaga/Kastrup, na Dinamarca, com 4,1%.
Os dados do Eurostat mostram que o aumento do tráfego aéreo confirma a recuperação gradual do setor na Europa, com o número de voos comerciais a aproximar-se novamente dos níveis registados antes da pandemia.
Apesar da recuperação do tráfego aéreo, o setor enfrenta novas pressões. O conflito no Médio Oriente e os atrasos nas entregas de aeronaves deverão reduzir para metade os lucros da aviação comercial global, segundo um alerta da Associação Internacional do Transporte Aéreo (IATA).
