Russia launched another attack on Kiev with missiles and drones in the early hours of Thursday, intensifying the fighting in the Ukraine war. One of the drones exploded about 300 meters from the Portuguese embassy in the Ukrainian capital. The strong explosion caused damage to the nearest buildings.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, all members of the Portuguese diplomatic representation are fine and there were no injuries among the embassy staff. The attack did not directly hit the embassy, but came very close to its facilities.

Portugal strongly condemned the attack that occurred in Kiev. The conflict in Ukraine was described as brutal by the Portuguese authorities, at a time when Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital have been intensifying. The situation highlights the growing risks for foreign diplomatic representations in the conflict zone.
