Ratko Mladic dies at 84. "Butcher of Bosnia" was serving life sentence

Ratko Mladic died at the age of 84 while serving a life sentence in The Hague. The former commander of Serbian-Bosnian forces during the Bosnia War was known as the "Butcher of Bosnia."

Mladic was convicted of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. His conviction was most notably associated with the Srebrenica massacre, which occurred in 1995.

In that massacre, approximately 8,000 Bosnian men and boys were killed. The sentence reflected Mladic's central role in the atrocities committed during the Bosnia conflict.
