Marlaska: "Around 5,000 migrants remain in Ceuta"

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General28 August 2026 at 08:40

Spain's Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande Marlaska, announced that approximately 5,000 migrants remain in Ceuta. Grande Marlaska made this statement during his speech in the Congress of Deputies.

The minister began his speech with a call for calm after recent violent incidents in the city of Ceuta. This tense situation at Spain's southern border has been escalating in recent weeks.

"Violence is by no means the way," Grande Marlaska stated in his speech, attempting to convey a message of tranquility in response to the events that have marked the autonomous city.

The Spanish government thus faces a significant migratory challenge in the city of Ceuta, a Spanish territory in North Africa, where the arrival of migrants has generated episodes of violence and concern among authorities.
