Timor-Leste's Prime Minister, Xanana Gusmão, said that the delimitation of maritime boundaries cannot be separated from the country's sovereignty. This statement was made by Gusmão today.
Gusmão also emphasized the Timorese people's right to enjoy the maritime resources that belong to them. The issue of maritime boundaries is therefore treated as a matter of national sovereignty and citizens' rights.
The prime minister's position reflects the importance that Timor-Leste attaches to controlling its sea resources, in a context where the delimitation of maritime boundaries with neighboring countries continues to be a relevant issue for the country.
