Electoral agenda will scatter legislators' effort

After having lunch with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the speakers of the House, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), and of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), were all smiles. Motta had already declared his vote for Lula. The meeting served to seal the peace between Lula and Alcolumbre, after months of estrangement, whose peak was the rejection in the Senate of the nomination of the attorney general, Jorge Messias, to the Supreme Court.

The agreement between the three has unmistakable electoral motivation. With the campaign underway, Congress will promote next week the traditional "concentrated effort." Proposals that are not examined by then will be left for after October. The conversation served to define what should go to a vote.
