End of the 6x1 schedule: days off, transition period, and weekly workload; understand the proposal being discussed in the Senate

The Constitutional Amendment Proposal (PEC) that ends the 6x1 schedule may advance in the Federal Senate during the last concentrated legislative effort of Congress before the elections. The proposal, which is one of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's electoral promises, is under analysis in the Senate, and the rapporteur rules out changes to the text, saying he aims to vote on it in committee next week.

According to the text under discussion, the PEC establishes a maximum workload of 40 hours per week, with two paid rest days and no salary reduction. However, the main changes for workers will not be immediate even if the proposal is approved and promulgated during this period.

The implementation will be done in stages: first, the workload limit drops from the current 44 hours to an intermediate level. The government, through the minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, has expressed expectation that the 6x1 PEC will be approved before the election.
