President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) participated on Thursday in the TV Globo interview series with presidential candidates, being the fourth one interviewed. During the interview, Lula was questioned about the suspicions involving his son Fábio Luis Lula da Silva, known as Lulinha.
The president classified the accusations against his son as "conjectures," stating there is no formal accusation and everything is based on phone conversations interpreted speculatively. Lula declared that if his son committed a crime, he will have to answer like any citizen.
Lula denied that he will take any action to shield or protect his son, mentioning he will not remove Federal Police delegates and that others have done this kind of thing in the past. He stated that his son knows he needs to prove his innocence and that he is certain his son is innocent.
The president also commented on Operation Lava Jato, saying it was "a lie created to prevent" him from becoming president. This statement was made in the context of questions about the suspicions involving his son and the messages exchanged between lobbyist Roberta Luchsinger and Lulinha.
