NASA debuts new lunar paint scheme on fleet of mythical T-38 aircraft and honors Artemis missions

SAPO27 August 2026 at 23:35

NASA revealed a new lunar-themed paint scheme on its fleet of T-38 aircraft, the mythical supersonic training jets that have been part of the space agency for decades. The first aircraft in the fleet already bears the new design, which features a black and white pattern with details alluding to the Moon.

The design was created to pay tribute to the Artemis missions, NASA's program aimed at returning humans to the lunar surface. The paint scheme symbolically and visually celebrates this space exploration initiative.

A second aircraft in the T-38 fleet is being prepared to receive a different finish, this time alluding to the far side of the Moon, also known as the far side of the natural satellite. This will be the second aircraft to integrate the new lunar-themed visual identity.

The T-38 aircraft are historic at NASA, having been used for decades as training aircraft for astronauts and test pilots. The updating of the paint scheme of these aircraft is part of a tradition of the agency to mark important moments in space exploration with visual changes to its vehicles.

Google earthquake alerts now work in Portugal: see how to activate and learn about the alternative for iPhone

Google has activated the Earthquake Alert System in Portugal for Android devices, which uses smartphone sensors to detect earthquakes of magnitude 4.5 or higher and send alerts to users in potentially affected areas. The feature, which was announced in 2020 and arrived on Android in 2021, is available in 98 countries and has already detected more than 18 thousand earthquakes worldwide. Portuguese users can activate the service in their phone settings, under "Safety and emergency." iPhone users, on the other hand, do not have an equivalent integrated feature, so the recommended alternative is the official application of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), although this does not function as an early warning alert. Portugal currently does not have a national earthquake early warning system.
