Airport is absolutely paralyzed, reports CBN listener at Santos Dumont

All flights from Santos Dumont Airport in Rio de Janeiro were redirected to Galeão on Thursday afternoon after an accident on the runway involving an Embraer EMB-500 Phenom 100 executive jet. A CBN listener reporting from the scene said she was on a plane that had its flight cancelled while passengers were still inside the aircraft. There is no forecast for the runway to reopen, and the airport is completely inoperative.

Beaches closed to swimming

Several beaches in the municipality of Espinho were closed to swimming due to microbiological contamination in the water, leading to red flags being raised and increased alerts to swimmers and surfers. The closure covers beaches such as Rua 37, Frente Azul Sul, Frente Azul Centro and Seca, including zones such as Marbelo and Pop Norte. The Espinho Municipal Council is monitoring the situation "permanently" and admits that the problem may be related to the weather conditions of the week and the opening of the fuse dike at Barrinha de Esmoriz/Lagoa de Paramos. The municipality considers urgent an intervention for dredging and maintenance of the lagoon, as well as increased surveillance of rivers and streams, announcing an investment in cleaning these watercourses in coordination with the APA.
