AliExpress caught using silent trick to identify customers
SAPO Notícias27 August 2026 at 11:44
A user discovered that AliExpress was using visitors' audio hardware to digitally identify them, through a silent trick that requires no audible sound. The technique, which uses the Web Audio API, allows creating a unique fingerprint of each user based on the characteristics of their audio hardware, even when no sound is being played. This practice raises significant privacy concerns, as the identification happens invisibly for the consumer. AliExpress has not officially commented on the situation, and experts warn that this type of tracking can be difficult for users to detect and block.
