The price is lower than many houses in Portugal, particularly in Lisbon, where a one-bedroom apartment can cost significantly more. The main challenge is the remote location of the town, which requires a willingness to abandon conventional urban life.

IHRU puts 77 housing units up for tender for affordable rental, some in Alentejo

Retorta opens temporary accommodation for families in vulnerable situations

A new unit of the National Urgent and Temporary Housing Fund was inaugurated in Retorta, Vila do Conde, resulting from a partnership between the Municipality and the local Santa Casa da Misericordia. The structure aims to host families in vulnerable situations, functioning as a transition stage towards permanent housing solutions, ensuring protection, inclusion and autonomy. This project is part of the national strategy for creating residential units through acquisition, rehabilitation or construction, with an investment of 203 million euros under the PRR, foreseeing 2,000 emergency or transition accommodations nationwide, in addition to dwellings, housing blocks and centers for security forces.
