Organized criminal groups, known as "Rolex gangs," are targeting Portugal with violent robberies against tourists and wealthy individuals. These groups select cities with high tourist presence and stay for one or two days near five-star hotels, luxury restaurants, and leisure venues frequented by rich people, multiplying police investigations. Portuguese police have intensified efforts to combat these networks, which operate with sophisticated methodology and frequently use violence.

Driver of hit-and-run in Albufeira remanded in custody

The 35-year-old driver who ran over 16 people in the Oura area, in Albufeira, was placed in preventive detention after judicial interrogation. The incident occurred around 3:00 AM on Tuesday on a nightlife street, leaving 16 injured, two in serious condition, including two GNR military officers. The driver, who was on vacation in the city, was arrested after fleeing from authorities and had an alcohol level of 1.29 g/l, having been charged with the crimes of aggravated assault, driving under the influence of alcohol, and dangerous driving.

GNR rescues weakened bird of prey
