Two Thai people were arrested in South Africa on suspicion of smuggling parrot eggs of endangered species through OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. In the most recent case, 50 eggs were found inside an improvised incubator in carry-on luggage on Thursday, and some of them had already hatched. The chicks are receiving intensive veterinary care and have been transferred to the National Zoological Garden in Pretoria. Investigations indicate that the eggs belonged to species protected by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
