A rare landslide in Nepal, initially identified as a magnitude 4.4 earthquake, was reclassified by the United States Geological Survey as a magnitude 5.2 landslide, which helps explain one of the most unusual phenomena of this catastrophe: the land mass itself that slid was capable of generating seismic waves detected by the instruments. The phenomenon resulted in the disappearance of two Portuguese citizens in the region.
