Rector Joaquim Brigas analyzes the transformation of the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda into a Polytechnic University, highlighting the unconditional institutional accreditation by A3ES, the results of research units evaluated by FCT (three rated as Very Good and two as Good) and the accreditation of three doctoral programs in partnership with national and international universities. The institution has significantly expanded its educational offering since 2019, with a 47% growth in master's programs and 30% in undergraduate programs, covering areas such as cybersecurity, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence. Research focuses on active aging, Dry Port logistics, and digital technologies for the blue economy. At the School of Tourism and Hospitality in Seia, Brigas highlights the cooperation with the municipality, the lack of student housing as the main challenge, and the importance of the university as an anchor for knowledge and territorial development.
