Almost 25 million victims do not recognize violence against women
The National Map of Gender Violence reveals that almost 25 million women in Brazil experienced domestic violence situations in 12 months without being able to identify such violence as such. About 87% of these women reported concrete situations of violence without spontaneously naming them as violence. When added to the almost 2 million who declared having suffered violence but did not call the police, the total reaches almost 27 million Brazilian women in the gap between the violence suffered and the search for police protection, representing 94% of victims. This unprecedented analysis was made possible by cross-referencing data from different sources by the platform maintained by the Observatory of Women against Violence, Instituto Natura, and Gênero e Número.
