Meta to pay $17 billion and change social media rules in settlement over teen addiction accusations in the US

Meta agreed to pay $17.1 billion to 29 U.S. states to settle accusations that its platforms (Facebook and Instagram) induce addiction in teenagers. The company will also have to implement new rules for users under 18, including a two-hour daily limit, nighttime blocking between midnight and 6 AM, removal of children under 13, and a non-personalized feed option. Despite accepting the agreement, Meta denied any wrongdoing.
