Flavio Bolsonaro says he will not participate in negotiation over US tariffs

cbn26 August 2026 at 16:45

Presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) stated on Wednesday that he does not intend to approach U.S. authorities to reverse the 37.5% tariff on Brazilian export goods. This is the first time the senator openly says he will not interfere in the negotiations, claiming he already "did his part" when he met with Americans in May, when he was received by President Donald Trump in the Oval Office and asked for the suspension of the new trade tariffs. At that time, the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) had two open investigations against Brazil, including one for alleged anti-competitive practices such as PIX.
