IBGE: IPCA-15 inflation falls 0.4% in August with Itaipu bonus

extra26 August 2026 at 15:22

The IPCA-15, the index that serves as a preview of official inflation, fell 0.40% in August, below market expectations that projected deflation of 0.31%. The decline was mainly driven by relief in electricity bills, which fell 6.25% due to the incorporation of the Itaipu bonus, with a direct impact on the Housing group, which dropped 1.41%. The result placed the index below the inflation target ceiling established by the Central Bank, accumulating a 4.24% increase over 12 months, compared to 4.52% in the previous period. IBGE warned, however, that this temporary relief in housing costs should be reversed in September.
