Dead birds found on six islands of the Azores had Newcastle disease

The Newcastle disease virus has been confirmed in pigeons and doves found dead on six islands of the Azores, according to the national reference laboratory. The Regional Directorate of Agriculture stated that the outbreak was identified through the National Surveillance Program for Newcastle Disease, but no cases were detected in poultry. The health authorities continue to monitor the situation on the affected islands to prevent the spread of the disease.
