The confusion that resulted in violence last Tuesday at the Institute of Philosophy and Social Sciences (IFCS) of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) is described in contradictory versions by the two main parties involved in the case. The incident involves mutual accusations of violence and racist motivation.

On one side, Law student Deivid Lima claims to have been a victim of aggression and racist insults while trying to take to the police station a student wearing a shirt with alleged Nazi apology. On the other side, History student Diego Costa Araújo denies the accusations and maintains that he was wearing an openly anti-Nazi punk band shirt, claiming to have suffered an attempted homicide after being beaten by dozens of people.

After the episode, the rector of UFRJ issued a statement affirming that the university does not accept Nazism, anti-Semitism or any form of discrimination, but also condemns the violence practiced during the incident.
