Forest fires in Spain have already burned more than 297,000 hectares this year, according to data released by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO) on Friday.

This number represents 48.1% of the total hectares burned by fires across the European Union, highlighting the severity of the situation in the country.

A total of 43 large fires have been recorded in Spanish territory during the analyzed period, which reinforces the exceptional scale of the environmental crisis faced by the nation.

The information was presented by MITECO, the agency responsible for monitoring Spain's ecological situation and demographic challenges.
