The Itaú report, prepared by the bank's economists and previewed by GLOBO, predicts that Brazil's agricultural GDP should turn negative in 2027. The main cause is the forecast of one of the strongest El Niño phenomena in recent decades, which should significantly harm the country's agricultural production.
If the forecast is confirmed, the result will once again interrupt a period of strong expansion in Brazil's agricultural sector. The chain of recent results shows that the sector reached a record in 2023, suffered a contraction in 2024, and returned to a record high in 2025.
