Nuclear plant in Ukraine could face blackout within ten days

The International Atomic Energy Agency warned that the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, occupied by Russia in Ukraine, is at risk of a total blackout within about ten days. The United Nations nuclear agency reported that, after the increase in military activity on the north bank of the Dnieper River, the plant lost on August 20 the 330-kilovolt Ferosplavna-1 line. This line was the only external connection remaining to the plant. The day before, the IAEA had denounced three attacks against the facility.

Brussels guarantees it is working on the Spanish request for support from European agencies

The European Commission guaranteed it is working to respond to Spain's request for support from European agencies — Frontex, Europol and the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) — to screen the migrants who remain in Ceuta after the mass entry of more than 72,000 people in July. European Commissioner Magnus Brunner stated that the decision will be made quickly and that the priority is to guarantee the rapid return of all people who remain illegally in the autonomous city. Spain requested ten additional Frontex agents, EUAA assistance for interviews and interpreters, and greater cooperation with Europol in investigating trafficking networks. European funding for humanitarian aid in Ceuta was increased to 44.51 million euros. At least 82 people died trying to reach Ceuta by swimming, and it is estimated that around 8,000 illegal migrants still remain in the city.
