Tadej Pogacar suffered an accident during the eighth stage of the Tour of Spain, which forced him to abandon the competition. The Slovenian rider was leading the general classification comfortably before the incident, which caused him several injuries.
Pogacar's injuries are already known. The cyclist suffered fractures to his hand and ribs, as well as a pneumothorax, a condition in which air accumulates between the lung and the chest wall.
The abandonment represents a major blow to Pogacar's sporting aspirations, as he intended to fight for the title at the Vuelta. His team, UAE Team Emirates, officially confirmed the injuries after medical examinations were carried out.
This incident marks the end of the general classification leader's participation in the Spanish race, leaving room for other favorites to compete for the red jersey in the remaining stages of the Tour of Spain.
