Zico recalled that Vasco eliminated Fluminense in the round of 16, another giant from Rio, and stated that it is important for Fluminense football that Vasco advances in the competition. The former player said he hopes that "Vascão" will step up and put Rio football in the spotlight once again.
Zico's statement comes on the eve of Vasco's decisive match for a spot in the semifinals. The team managed by coach Pedro Emanuel won 1-0 against Vitória in the first leg of the quarterfinals, held at São Januário, and needs just a draw in the return leg, scheduled for next Wednesday at Barradão.
Before reaching the quarterfinals, Vasco had already eliminated another rival from Rio. In the round of 16, the club drew zero to zero with Fluminense, securing qualification for the next stage of the competition.
