Timor-Leste will make available 8.6 million euros to reinforce combat against fires in Portugal. The Timorese Prime Minister, Xanana Gusmão, announced this contribution during a visit to Portugal, expressing his country's solidarity with Portugal in the face of the severe wildfires that have affected Portuguese territory.

The amount will be delivered through the trust fund for cooperation between Timor-Leste and Portugal. This decision represents a significant gesture of friendship between the two countries, despite Timor-Leste being a developing nation with limited resources.

Portugal has been facing large-scale wildfires in recent years, which have caused deaths, destruction of habitats and significant economic damage. The country has sought to reinforce its means of combating these phenomena, which have intensified due to adverse climate conditions.

Timor-Leste's contribution comes within the framework of bilateral relations between the two countries, which include partnerships in various areas, including military training and technical cooperation. This financial support comes as a way to demonstrate Timor-Leste's gratitude for the help it received from Portugal during the independence process and state building.
