Mourinho bets on Mbappé for 2026 Ballon d'Or: 'Best player in the world'

Portuguese coach José Mourinho, from Real Madrid, launched on Saturday a campaign in favor of French star Kylian Mbappé for the 2026 Ballon d'Or. Mourinho argued that the award should go to "the best player in the world" and not necessarily to the World Cup or Champions League winner.

Mourinho stated that "the best players in the world are two, or three, or four" and that Mbappé is among them, highlighting that the player made history individually in the summer. Mbappé became the all-time top scorer of the North American World Cup.

The captain of the French national team is currently the top scorer in LaLiga, the Champions League, and the 2026 World Cup. Although he finished last season without winning any title, Mbappé is among the main candidates for the award, alongside English striker Harry Kane, Spaniard Rodri, and Paris Saint-Germain players Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

On Wednesday, Mbappé scored a hat-trick against Real Sociedad in a 4-1 victory, demonstrating his good form this season.
