The president of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, again defended golf as the main strategy to attract tourists to Porto Santo during the low season. The statements were made on the sidelines of the inauguration of the first fruit and vegetable store of Frutimade, at Penedo, on the island of Porto Santo.
Albuquerque highlighted that golf is seen as the priority bet to combat tourism seasonality on the island, which faces difficulties in maintaining visitor flow outside the high season.
The opening of the Frutimade store represents a new local business on the island, which became known as the "golden island," adding a fresh products offering to the region.
