The National Court rejected the asylum request of Moroccan citizens who swam into Ceuta in May 2021. The decision was made in the context of an unprecedented migratory wave in the Spanish enclave.

On May 17, 2021, more than 10,000 people managed to enter Ceuta both by swimming and through the border fence, in a massive attempt to reach European territory.

This episode is considered the prelude to the massive entry that occurred on July 30 of the same year, when 72,000 immigrants were registered, a number that far exceeded the previous figure.

The data was provided by the Spanish Ministry of the Interior, led by Fernando Grande-Marlaska, which documented the magnitude of these migratory crises on the southern Spanish border.
