Tadej Pogacar abandoned the Tour of Spain, marking the first time the Slovenian rider has quit one of the three Grand Tours of cycling. This was his 10th combined participation in the three three-week races, and until now he had never withdrawn from any of them.
The withdrawal represents a significant milestone in Pogacar's career, considered the best cyclist currently active. In nine previous editions of the Grand Tours, the Slovenian always managed to finish on the podium of the general classification, demonstrating extraordinary consistency at the highest level of world cycling.
The information was announced as "reported withdrawal," suggesting the news was confirmed or communicated during the event. This unexpected fact marks the end of an impressive streak of top-three finishes in all his participations in the three-week races.
