The Slovenian rider Tadej Pogacar, from the UAE Emirates team, withdrew from the Tour of Spain on Saturday, August 24, during the eighth stage of the race. The withdrawal occurred after a fall that happened on the link between Puçol and Xeraco, in the Valencian Community.
Pogacar was leading the Vuelta general classification in dominant fashion at the time of the fall. This was the 81st edition of the Tour of Spain in cycling, one of the three Grand Tours of world cycling, alongside the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France.
Pogacar's withdrawal represents a significant blow to the Slovenian rider's aspirations this season, which had as its main objective conquering the Vuelta after having won the Tour de France in July. The withdrawal occurred when everything indicated that Pogacar was in a position to fight for the final victory in the general classification.
