The body of Army Colonel Álvaro Roberto Cruz Ferreira Lima, who died after falling from a hang glider into the sea at São Conrado Beach, in the South Zone of Rio, was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office (IML) for autopsy. According to the civil police, further investigations are underway to clarify the circumstances of the accident.
The military officer was pulled from the water by Fire Department teams in cardiac arrest. He received first aid on the sand and was taken in critical condition to Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital, in Gávea. According to the hospital management, despite the efforts of the medical team, he did not survive.
The case was registered at the 14th Police Station (Leblon). The accident occurred on Friday afternoon (28).
