The professor of Political Sciences at the University of Barcelona Xavier Torrens published on June 30, 2025, in collaboration with professor from the Autonomous University of Madrid Luis de la Corte Ibáñez, an article about the migratory crisis experienced by the autonomous city of Ceuta in 2021, which can be considered premonitory about the eruption last July of more than 72,000 people in Ceuta.

In conversation with EL PERIÓDICO, the director of the Master's in Strategic Security Management at the Catalan university stated that Donald Trump's presidency represents a window of opportunity for Morocco and Mohamed VI to achieve objectives, given that Morocco and the United States maintain an excellent relationship.

Torrens indicated that this situation coincides with the fact that in their political speeches both Pedro Sánchez and Trump are confronted, which creates a favorable scenario for Moroccan interests.

The specialist warned that with Trump as president there is a much higher risk over Ceuta and Melilla on the part of Morocco, considering that the current geopolitical dynamic favors actions on the part of the Alawite kingdom.
