There is a country where taxis are no longer driven by humans

In China, specifically in the city of Wuhan, taxis are no longer driven by humans. The company Apollo Go, from the tech conglomerate Baidu, operates a fleet of autonomous robotaxis that has been rapidly expanding throughout the city.

Since the service launch, the autonomous vehicles have already traveled over four million kilometers and completed 76,613 passenger trips. The robotaxis are available to the public in various areas of the city and can be called through a mobile application.

The company Baidu has been investing significantly in this autonomous driving technology, positioning it as a safe and efficient solution for urban transportation. Apollo Go was one of the first companies to obtain licenses to operate fully autonomous vehicles without a safety driver present.

This project is part of a broader strategy by China to become a global leader in autonomous vehicle technology. Several Chinese cities are testing similar services, but Wuhan stands out for the volume of operations and passenger acceptance.
